The ASW 28 is the newest FAI standard class glider from Alexander Schleicher. This successor of the ASW24 uses almost the same fuselage as the 24, but has a completely new wing design with significantly improved performance when circling in thermals.
The Ka 8 was derived from the earlier Ka 6 design as a simple single-place sailplane with dive brakes using construction techniques similar to the Ka 7, simplified for amateur construction from kits. Emphasis was on rugged construction, good climbing ability in thermals and good handling characteristics.
The SG-38 was used for basic flight training in the early days of soaring. First flight was in 1938, more than 8000 gliders were built in the following 10 year period. The most common start method was bungee lauch at ridges, and the flight durations were measured in seconds.
