Today we are happy to announce that a major update to the “classic” version of Silent Wings is available.
Features
Some highlights of this release:
- Completely rewritten launcher with a more modern user interface
- 64-bit support (including MacOS Catalina and modern Linux distros)
- Simplified multiplayer setup, especially for LAN play
- Improved installer with simplified scenery installation
- Improved task planner and map module
- Lots of bugfixes and optimizations
This is not Silent Wings 2.0
As some of you may know we are also still working on a major new version of Silent Wings (as we have been for the last 10 years or so). This release is not Silent Wings 2.0. It is still the original, but with many improvements and modernizations.
This release was made especially important after Apple cut support for 32-bit applications in MacOS Catalina, and using a more modern codebase enables us to keep the 1.x series supported for a while longer.
Getting this release out of the way clears the schedule for more work on Silent Wings 2.0, and we’ll try to keep you up-to-date with some more news on this in the months to come.
Free update (but please consider paying anyway)
This update (as all the updates to the 1.x series) is available for free if you have a valid Silent Wings Simulator license.
However, since this update is huge and has cost us a lot of hours we have added the option of donating a small price of 9 EUR when activating the license. We certainly hope that many of you will help support our work by using this option, but we will of course not hold it against you if you don’t :-)
